the man your man could smell like

This is a old spice commercial that I have seen a lot of  times for a man’s body wash. It starts out as a half naked man standing in a shower room. He starts  out to saying hello to the ladies then says “looks at your man now back to me, now back to your man, now back to me, sadly he isn’t me.” Next the scene changes to him on a boat and his shirt is still off. He also says that he has an oyster with “two tickets to that thing you wanted to see”. The tickets change into diamonds pouring out of his hand. Out of his hand the body wash rises up, and he still stays that “anything is possible when your man smells like old spice”. Then the scene changes again to him on a house.

There are a lot of things in this commercial that relate to the course theme. Its a product for man but it addresses the ladies in the beginning of the commercial. They use a attractive man talking in a sexy voice to get the viewers attention to look at him. He’s presented as an ideal man for women to look at. He makes it seem like he is better than any man who watches the commercial because he got her tickets that the thing she loves and diamonds. This is saying that the ideal man gets things for his woman and smells nice. For the rest of us all we can do is smell like the ideal man. This a little exaggeration that is mean to be funny for the views that watch. Even though this is mean to be a joke there is still something behind all of this the message that man think woman want a hansom man that gets them things.

  1. This commercial is definitely exagerating to imply that the “perfect” man uses old spice, and any man who wants to be even somewhat like him should use it too. It was interesting how they addressed it to ladies, but it seemed to be trying more to send a message to men. I do agree that it is implying to men that women are only interested in the type of man who is advertised in the commercial, and all other men are considered inferior. If they use old spice, they too can become like the advertised man that so many women apparently want.

  2. I totally agree with this commercial being about the “ideal” man women want. After watching it at first I thought it was geared towards women who have a boyfriend/husband. It is telling them that they should buy their man this product and they will turn into something better than they are already and buy them everything they want. I do see that it could be for men, telling them that they should use Old Spice, and if they do they will be the perfect man, because that is what women want.

  3. First off, BEST COMMERCIAL EVER! This commercial features a “perfect man” that no one could actually personify, but tells men that even though they can’t match him, they can take this one aspect of him (using old spice) and up their game some. It uses the media’s ideas of the perfect man well to create comedy as well as make consumers associate this perfect man with their product.
