I recently ran across an article published by the BBC claiming that men are more intelligent than women.

These excerpts caught my eye:
“…research shows that men are more intelligent than women.”
“A study… says that men are on average five points ahead on IQ tests.”
Basically the whole claim is based on IQ s score. Whether its true or not that men are smarter than women, I don’t think this article proves anything. My question is how accurately so these IQ test measure intelligence? What is intelligence anyways? The answers to these questions are still debated today! How can you make a claim on something that doesn’t have a solid definition.
The article goes on to say this:
“Dr Irwing told The Times the differences [in IQ scores] “‘may go some way to explaining the greater numbers of men achieving distinctions of various kinds, such as chess grandmasters, Fields medalists for mathematics, Nobel prize-winners and the like.”‘
I think this is a very loose connection of evidence and claim. Maybe men are found to be better at chess because they like it more!
All things considered I think we can draw a few conclusions.
1. The person who wrote this article is male
2. The person who made the IQ test is male
3. Males are smarter than females
4. All these conclusions are have the same amount of validity as the article. NONE!
With that being said I just want to say thanks to the guy that made all the other guys look stupid by publishing this article. (There were even; a bunch, of grammatically errors, in the: article.)
In any case, I think Men are Smarter than women. What do you think?

Gender in the Media 
I dont think anyone can really judge wheteher men or smarter than women. Even test scores and statistics do not take into effect everything that measures intelligence. I think that a woman reporter would never report this and a man would never say the opposite no matter what numbers they came across.
I saw an article a while back that actually had the exact opposite claim with evidence. It was talking about that when women give birth, their IQ increases by a little. However, I’m not sure that intelligence really has anything to do with gender, and is therefore pointless to research. Just my take on the topic at least.
Like you said, this article probably doesn’t have much creditability. Anyone can go out and find some research to support their claim. I don’t think that intelligence can be measured just based on IQ, nor can you compare women and men’s intelligence.
I think this is a very touchy subject and the whole idea of intelligence is complicated none the less putting gender in the mix. But as a scientist he used the facts that he could gather and found men had higher IQ’s then women. Although this may not be true and there are all kinds of things that could prevent women from learning or give men an upper hand the facts at the moment say that men as a whole have higher IQ’s then women. I don’t think you can just discount this article if you do think women are smarter but you can discuss why these were the result, what caused them and how you can change them.
